Backpacking Africa

We’ll pack our bags and get ready for a 2 ½ week unique and tailor-made backpacking trip in Southern Africa.

The trip to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia will provide experiences and memories for life.

Some of the places are well-known backpacker destinations, but we also travel to lesser-known places to live with locals, get to know young people, and eat authentic food during home visits. There will be different activities and nature experiences than we are used to.

An exciting and powerful journey through Southern Africa

We travel with local guides

Authentic encounters, far from tourist areas

Travel experiences create strong community

Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe, we go on a safari in Hwange National Park, known for its rich wildlife and one of Africa’s best places to see “The Big Five” (Lion, leopard, African elephant, Cape buffalo, and rhino). The trip continues to a tribal visit in a village. Here we will learn about traditional life, crafts, music, and dance.

Zambia

The trip continues to Zambia where we will experience one of the world’s largest waterfalls: Victoria Falls. Spectacular waterfalls that are on UNESCO’s World Heritage List and also part of the “Seven Natural Wonders of the World”. We also experience authentic impulses in the city of Livingstone with markets, food, and human encounters.

Unique nature experiences

Our study trips provide a greater understanding of other people and cultures

South Africa

Next stop is magical South Africa. In East London, we’ll experience Africa from the inside through social projects, home visits, and beach bonfires at sunset. We continue along the famous Garden Route through magnificent nature. We’ll spend a few days in Mossel Bay. Here we’ll hike the St. Blaize Trail with cliff paths, whales, and dolphins. There’s also the chance to ride the world’s longest zipline over the ocean for those who dare.

We take a day trip to Oudtshoorn to visit an ostrich farm. Along the way, we will meet witnesses from the Apartheid regime who will provide us with important knowledge about human dignity, racism, and democracy. The trip concludes in Cape Town. Here we will visit, among other places, Townships, Table Mountain, an iconic mountain plateau in Cape Town, and Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for several decades. We also travel all the way south to the Cape of Good Hope. On the way there, we will also get to experience the penguins at Boulders Beach.
